CHAPTER ELEVEN

Ginger Lawson

I stared at my wall clock waiting for it to hit seven. I had been doing twelve hour shifts the past two weeks. The stress was starting to take its toll on my body. I didn’t need to physically be in the office. The distraction kept my mind off of Hale and the upcoming surgery.

Our conversations over the last two weeks were brief. I responded to his text messages with one word or none at all. I know it was childish because I didn’t just come out and tell him that I was pissed he lied. I warned him in advance that I would not tolerate lies.

Hale lied to my ear while Leif was standing in my damn face. Leif also ended up spending the whole day with us, so he could not have been meeting up with him later. The whole scenario made my ass itch, and I had my own health to worry about not Hale’s lying ass.

I had to mentally prepare for what was to come for me, the surgery. After much debate and rationalizing with my oncologist, we decided on a lumpectomy. Well I did, his ass wanted to remove both of my breasts. I told him to go straight to hell and bury his head in brimstone. The risk of cancer returning is one I’m willing to take.

I want to have children and breast feed in the future. I finally informed my brother Larue and mother about the cancer. They were dramatic as hell and upset.

I had only confided in Lyric and my father up to this point. Both of them are too damn emotional for the rollercoaster I had been on. My cell phone lit up, letting me know Lyric was calling and it was five minutes until seven.

“Hey L, what up Boo?”

“Girl these clients are working my nerves talking about my prices are too high. No broke bitch, you spent your entire paycheck on the bundles.”

She screeched into the phone. I started laughing while gathering my things to go home. She had the cheapest clients, always trying to get a discount or free style. They were all a bunch of no job having, welfare fraudulent, and dope boy fucking chicks.

“But you already knew that though. Swear you better than me. I would be reading those hoes the riot act. I’m crashing at your place tonight that long ass drive is not on my agenda.” I closed my laptop and headed toward the closet for my coat. Lyric lived ten minutes from my office building.

“I told you about living out in no man’s land. Come on over menu tonight is fried chicken, baked macaroni and greens. I will bake a few chicken breasts for your healthy ass.”

She knew me too well. I arrived to her house about twenty minutes later. Winter traffic in the Burgh meant an accident every few blocks. People pissed me off with that stupid shit. Live all they life here and can’t handle more than five inches of snow.
